For years, Mount Greylock has inspired artists and writers, including authors Herman Melville and Henry David Thoreau.
recreationDescription Mount Greylock has over 70 miles of designated trails for day hiking, backpacking, back country skiing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling, including an 11.5 mile section of the Appalachian National Scenic trail. Winter camping is allowed, however, please be aware that the campground is six miles from the plowed Visitor Center parking lot and after snowfall it is accessible by snowmobile, snowshoes, skis or hiking only. No off-road vehicle use is permitted. From November to mid-May, Rockwell Road is closed beyond the Visitor Center.
